Sea Pines Homeowners Association Newsletter

May 26, 2014

Dear Neighbors,

Hey, it's no longer cold, rainy or windy (much). It's certainly no longer quiet. Yep, Memorial Day weekend is upon us and the summer season is just about underway. Yippee!! And the beach! We've gained a lot of sand over the winter. It's now just one half-step down from the landing to the sand and then pretty much flat out from there. Lookin' good.

The Annual Meeting was held yesterday and the draft minutes will be published shortly. Suffice it to say that it was a fairly quiet meeting and that Karl Fryzel's presentation of financials and reserves was highly understandable and informative. A comment was made that relates to the "great beach" comment in the 1st paragraph above. A request was made to clean the sand off the landing! As I said, we gained a lot of sand.

Speaking of Karl, he is now the FMB chairman. David Sullivan stepped down after 7 successful years (!) as Chairman but remains on the FMB. Terry Milligan remains the Vice Chairman. Taking over as Treasurer from Karl is Bob Smaglia. I continue as Clerk. Eileen Monroe (phase 4) and Bob Grogan (phase 3) left the FMB and were replaced by Brian Grottkau (phase 4) and Bill Dennett (phase 3). Many thanks to Eileen and Bob for their service to Sea Pines!

After what I'd bet seems like a century of duty to him, Frank Pease (phase 2) had to resign from the FMB in April after selling his Grove Lane home and moving into his phase 1 Landing Lane home. The FMB appointed Olwen Saint to fill the 1 year remaining on his term.

Frank left the FMB after about 40 years (!!!!) of service on the FMB, Grounds Committee and many other committees and roles since 1973. There is simply no way I can effectively summarize the tremendous service over such long years this man has given to Sea Pines. The first official report I have been able to locate of any Sea Pines committee is that of the organizational meeting of the Grounds Committee on October 11, 1975, written by Frank as Chairman of the Grounds Committee, describing their many meetings during the summer of 1975. Huzzah, Mr. Pease!!!

Siding progress: The contractor is nearly done with Knoll and expects to complete Overlook before the end of June. It is possible the Clubhouse could also be done. Starting the day after Labor Day, Grove will be tackled, followed (according to the current schedule) by Hollow then Friendship. The only July/August work that will be done is painting.

Many thanks to Judy McKenzie for the beautiful flowers by the Sea Pines entrance and the guard shack.

The approved minutes of the previous FMB meeting are always posted on the Clubhouse bulletin board. Please note that minutes are approved at the next month's FMB meeting, so minutes of the current meeting are not posted until after the following meeting. If you would like these minutes emailed to you, please email me your name, Sea Pines address and email address. To be added to the minutes email list, your email address must be the same as the one published for you in the current Sea Pines homeowner directory. Remember to update your email with Mercantile if it changes!

Also know that you can arrange auto-debit from your bank account of your condo fees with Mercantile. This is an advantage if you sometimes forget to send in the payment coupon and check or are getting sticker shock from the cost of postage these days. You can even set up and use auto-debit without a computer. I use auto-debit for almost all regular debits these days, so I never have to worry about being late with a payment or missing an emailed payment due notice which gets blocked by Comcast for some reason. Contact Mercantile for details of auto-debit. It is a simple process and saves Sea Pines money since we don't have to print and mail payment coupons to you.

Please remember: No plastic bags or styrofoam (packing materials, etc) should be put into the recycling bins. These are NOT recyclable and cost Sea Pines money to remove. Please put these materials in the trash. It's ok to use plastic bags to collect your recyclables. Empty them into the recycle cans then throw the bag into the trash. Plastic bags can be collected and recycled at Stop-n-Shop or Shaws.

The next FMB is Saturday, June 28 at 8:30am in the Clubhouse. Click on the web site's "events" link to see the current schedule.

Sincerely,

Christopher Wroten
