Sea Pines Homeowners Association Newsletter

September 10, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

Ooof! No newsletter since May 28. The entire summer without my scintillating prattle about Sea Pines. How did you ever survive? Someone else should step up to write newsletters since I now live in Maryland. My time at Sea Pines will be much less, since my door-to-door travel time has ballooned from 80 minutes to 8 hours. We're here now for about a week and the weather is just glorious.

I'm pretty much clueless about what has transpired at Sea Pines this summer since I've been absent since mid-July due to our move to Maryland. I heard the weekend guard at the guard shack during July turned away 25+ cars, which is good. Will this be continued? I don't know - kinda pricey - it's on the September FMB agenda.

There is some news about what's coming up in the fall, which is nearly always a busy project time.

  1. Exterior mailboxes: This project has been awarded to a local contractor. I think it will start this fall, on the land to the right of the boat parking area at the Clubhouse. They will be clustered on a concrete foundation and under a roof with open sides.
  2. Phased testing of the underground electrical infrastructure will start this fall - it's called "Megger Testing". The intent is to replace only those lines which fail this test.
  3. The beach path renovation is expected to start shortly, if approved by the Brewster Conservation Committee, which seems likely. It is expected to include new grading, new steps, a new landing, new sand fencing and beach mats.
  4. Replacement of fencing on the east side of Sea Pines, between SP and the Pineland Park area.
  5. The Grove Lane sidewalk replacement project start date is dependent on the outcome of the Megger electrical testing.

An unexpected item of good news: the cost of common insurance dropped about $35,000 for 2018. Goodness knows what it will do in 2019 as a result of hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Jose, but the savings from 2018 will be put to good use.

The swimming pool filter pump had problems and was replaced this summer with a new energy efficient motor that should reduce its electrical costs by about 75%. Further reductions in pool maintenance costs are being considered at the September FMB. Note that the pool will be closed for the season on Monday September 18. I swam in it 2 days ago after a workout in the exercise room - brisk but very refreshing and all to myself!

Finally, it is so hard to get live broadcasts of the Patriots football games from Maryland. NFL Game Pass does it, but only 24 hours afterwards. NFL Sunday Ticket does it and live, but our Maryland address is not eligible for it. Direct TV does it and live, but it is very expensive (on top of already pricey cable tv) and gets even more so over time. Sigh.

Sincerely,

Christopher Wroten
